Video Cropper

Crop a video to 9:16, 4:5, 1:1 or another ratio. Drag to move, pinch or scroll to zoom, then download. Nothing is uploaded.

Everything runs in your browser. Your video is never uploaded, and nothing is stored.

How to use it

Drop a video onto the box, or tap it to pick one. It starts playing straight away so you can see what you are framing. Pick a ratio. 9:16 for reels and stories, 4:5 for a feed post, 1:1 for the square. Drag the video to choose what stays in frame. Pinch on a phone or scroll on a desktop to zoom, or use the slider. Zooming past 100 percent crops in. Zooming below it does the opposite, shrinking the whole frame so nothing is lost and filling the gap with a blurred copy of the footage. That is the way to get a wide clip into a tall frame without cutting the sides off. Every frame has to be re-encoded, so this takes real time. The bar shows how far through it is.

Questions

Is my video uploaded anywhere?

No. The cropping happens inside your browser using a WebAssembly build of ffmpeg. The file never leaves your device, which is why there is no size limit and no sign-up.

How do I get a wide video into a tall frame?

Zoom below 100 percent. The whole frame shrinks to fit and the space around it fills with a blurred copy, so nothing is cut off. Zoom above 100 percent instead if you would rather crop the sides.

Does it lose quality?

A little. Cropping means re-encoding, which always costs something, but the settings here are close enough that it is hard to see.

Why is it slower than the image cropper?

An image is one frame. A video is thousands, and every one of them has to be decoded, cropped and encoded again.

Is the audio affected?

No. The audio track is copied across untouched, so it stays exactly as it was.
