Audio Extractor
Pull the audio out of a video, or strip the audio off and keep the picture. Runs in your browser, nothing is uploaded.
Everything runs in your browser. Your video is never uploaded, and nothing is stored.
How to use it
Drop a video onto the box, or tap it to pick one from your device. Extract audio gives you the soundtrack on its own, usually as an .m4a. Remove audio gives you the same video back with the sound taken off. Both copy the existing streams rather than re-encoding, so there is no quality loss and the work takes seconds even on a long file. If the audio format cannot be copied cleanly it falls back to MP3, which does re-encode. The first run downloads a 31 MB engine. That happens once and is then cached, so every run after it starts immediately.
Questions
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. The whole thing runs inside your browser using a WebAssembly build of ffmpeg. The file never leaves your device, which is why there is no size limit and no sign-up.
Why is the first run slow?
It has to fetch the 31 MB ffmpeg engine before it can do anything. The browser caches it, so the second run and every one after start straight away.
What format does the audio come out as?
Whatever was already inside the video, most often AAC in an .m4a container. Nothing is re-encoded, so the audio is bit for bit what was in the file.
Does removing the audio hurt the video quality?
No. The video stream is copied across untouched and only the audio track is dropped, so the picture is identical to the original.
Which files does it accept?
MP4, WebM, MKV, MOV and most other common containers. Very large files are held in memory, so a phone may struggle past a gigabyte or so.
